Inspecting the Catch Black & White The Grant painting was sold

SKU 17282931271

Description

The Grant painting was sold by Whitten’s family  at Auction in 2014

Although not from his WPA period this is a relatively early work and its appeal and ultimately its value is derived entirely from the subject

including a daughter that Mary seems to have brought up as her own

The day trippers in small craft jostling in amongst the barges at a country lock are reminiscent of many 20th century painters
